All the dogs that we have are rescues, even Pikelet who was only five weeks old when we saved him from being put down. Pikelet is not just an ordinary dog, he has a special talent for taking care of orphaned puppies and teaching them how to be proper dogs. Our furry family expanded when we welcomed Patty Cakes, a lovable and wise bull-breed mix puppy. Recently, we were given the opportunity to foster two baby ducklings from Wollongong Animal Rescue Network. We named them Penguin Popinjay and they are around four weeks old now. We plan to adopt them altogether with Patty’s consent. Pikey and Patty happily take care of their daily duck duties which include eating, sleeping, and playing together. Occasionally, we visit a nearby park where the dogs and ducks can run and play. On hot days, we bring them to the harbour dog beach where they all enjoy swimming. Our family has a new addition, a lovable puppy named Patty Cakes. He has a unique blend of bull breed in his DNA and is quite young, yet he exudes the composure and knowledge of an experienced spirit.
Last March, we were presented with a new opportunity to serve as foster parents for the Wollongong Animal Rescue Network.
On this occasion, our fostering responsibilities came with an interesting addition – we were assigned to care for a pair of charming baby ducks who had unfortunately lost their mother.
Our adorable penguins, fondly referred to as Penguin Popinjay, have recently turned four weeks old.
Numerous individuals have shown their interest in adopting them, and it seems highly probable that they will be moving to a new permanent residence in slightly more than a week.
Patty made a sudden choice to look after these cute little ones.
As a result, he welcomed them into his care and took on the role of their protector, earning himself the endearing nickname of Mr. Mom.
Initially, Pikelet was hesitant to accept new visitors, but gradually grew fond of them and formed a close relationship with a group of charming ducklings.
Patty and Pikey are truly dedicated and enthusiastic in carrying out their daily duties of caring for their feathered friends.
As a group, they come together to enjoy food, take breaks, and participate in various activities.
Whenever we visit the area, we always stop by the charming dog beach situated in the small harbor. It’s an ideal spot to cool off during hot summer days.
Since becoming popular, this quartet has been featured in numerous newspapers worldwide.
The happiness and excitement of our family fills us with joy as we eagerly look forward to what lies ahead in the future.
A garbage heap became a near-death trap for a litter of four baby mice who stumbled upon dumped tar. The sticky substance covered them entirely, leaving only their eyes capable of moving due to the layer of slime and dirt.
Animal Aid Unlimited in India responded to a distress call and rescued a dog that was stuck in asphalt. It is believed that the dog’s cries alerted humans to its predicament. Upon arrival, Animal Aid Unlimited discovered that the dog had siblings who were also trapped in tar. One of the puppies was covered in plastic waste and pebbles, all of which were stuck to its body due to the tar. The situation left the young canines confused, anxious, and in pain.
Two of the puppies were stuck under a thick layer of tar, leaving only their eyes visible. However, their misery was alleviated through the power of love and patience. The rescuers took a gradual approach to freeing the puppies, starting with locating and transporting the two they initially found to the shelter. Despite knowing that the puppies had a mother, it took until the following day to locate her. The rescuers then dedicated themselves to the delicate task of removing the tar from the pups’ bodies, a process that takes hours to complete. In addition to being covered in tar, one of the dogs was wrapped in plastic garbage. Animal Aid Unlimited volunteers were meticulous and thorough in their efforts, using their hands to meticulously remove stones, sand, branches, and other debris from around the puppies’ bodies. The tar had hardened around their bodies, making the procedure even more delicate.
Once the solid waste was taken care of, the puppies’ cleanliness was improved through the use of fat-removing chemicals during the washing process. While there were still some remnants of the hazardous substance on their fur, the majority of it had been eliminated.
After the initial rescue, two additional youngsters were found in comparable or even worse conditions. One of them was covered not only in stones and mud but also plastic debris. The process of saving these young ones took over three days.
For over three days, the team tirelessly cared for a group of four tired and discouraged puppies. However, the mood instantly lifted as soon as they introduced the tar to the mix! The pups were in desperate need of some TLC since they had been contaminated by harmful plastic, but once they were washed, they could finally receive love and sustenance from their mother again. Witnessing these playful pups emerge from such a traumatic experience was heartwarming, even though they still had some tar stains on their skin. It’s delightful to see that they’re back to enjoying life with their loving mother.
What a challenging and unforeseen rescue mission, but thankfully it ended on a positive note. Let’s make sure everyone knows about it!
