A large feline by the name of Wilford sought refuge at a nearby animal shelter in hopes of finding a brighter future.

Wilford, a magnificent 8-year-old cat, found himself in a shelter after his previous owner could no longer take care of him. He was in a terrible state, with matted fur, grime, and an unhealthy amount of weight. Fortunately, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, a rescue organization based in Virginia, stepped in to help the poor feline. However, Wilford was still in dire need of proper medical care and a temporary foster home.

Jen, one of the kind-hearted foster volunteers at the rescue group, described Wilford as an incredibly sweet cat. However, he was understandably distressed and overwhelmed by all the recent changes in his life. Despite everything he had been through, Wilford remained a loving and affectionate kitty who was eager to receive love and attention from anyone willing to give it to him.

At present, Wilford tips the scales at 28 pounds, a far cry from his ideal weight of 14 pounds. Unfortunately, it won’t be a quick fix as he’ll need a few years to get there. Before embarking on his weight loss journey, our furry friend had to tackle a few health problems first. He had several visits to the vet for treatment and extra medical attention before his condition stabilized.

When Wilford regained his strength, they started assisting him in reducing his weight gradually. The ultimate goal is for him to lose half of his body weight. He’s a charming fellow, and they’re thankful for the time they get to spend with him. (Video below)

Jen found a moist diet that Wilford likes to eat regularly. According to her, Wilford is quite fond of catnip and toys made from it. Although he has restricted movement, he enjoys playing with the feather wand and can be encouraged to bat at it. This could assist in getting him some physical activity.

When Wilford is feeling secure, he finds pleasure in laying on his back. According to Jen, he has a fondness for this position and can switch to it effortlessly. Additionally, he has a considerable purr motor that starts up almost instantly when he’s being petted.

Even though Wilford is already an adult cat, he still behaves like a playful kitten and has a charming personality. He gets excited whenever he spots his beloved toy and can’t resist playing with it. Jen shared that despite experiencing challenges, Wilford remains affectionate and endearing. He enjoys being caressed and emits loud purring sounds that could be heard even from a distance.

Wilford is a cat who adores people and loves to snuggle up in a cozy lap whenever he gets the chance. When it comes to mealtime, he moves at lightning speed, and not even a flight of stairs can hinder him. Petting Wilford is an incredibly fulfilling and calming experience. Watching him unwind and enjoy the affection is incredibly heartwarming. Given how much he enjoys being petted, Wilford would be an extraordinary therapy cat.

The adorable feline is constantly in a cheerful mood and becoming increasingly energetic and mischievous with each passing day. After a few additional weeks, he will be prepared to be adopted by a caring family who will accompany him on his life adventure.
