An Australian house cat who is literally three times the size of a normal feline is currently in the running to be crowned the longest kitty in the world.
Weighing in at a 30 pounds, Omar the Maine Coon became an internet sensation after his photo was featured on the Cats of Instagram account, which currently has over 8 million followers.
After Omar’s picture went viral his owner, whose name is Stephy Hirst, from Melbourne, was contacted by Guinness World Records, who suggested her cat could be the longest in the world.
Ms. Hirst stated she would now send Omar’s measurements in for official verification.
The current record is held by a UK Maine Coon measuring 46 inches, but Ms. Hirst explained that she last measured Omar at about 47 inches.
‘We thought he might be (the longest cat in the world) but we hadn’t done anything about it because he might not be fully grown yet,’ Ms. Hirst stated to The Herald Sun.
Ms. Hirst and her partner, whose name is Rowan, first got Omar when he was a kitten.
A daily diet for Omar normally includes two scoops of kibble for breakfast and raw kangaroo for dinner.
And just like other cats he truly enjoys taking naps!
‘He sleeps on the couch… because he takes up too much room on the bed and he demands we cuddle and pet him all through the night,’ Ms.Hirst stated.
Ms. Hirst also owns two sheltie dogs, whose names are Penny and Rafiki.
Apparently, it’s not the typical dog versus cat in her house.
Omar can be seen posing in photos along with the dogs, which look tiny compared to their massive feline friend.
